CHAPTER 26

The rocks crushed under their feet as they followed the road back toward town. Beau didn’t mind walking. It was a beautiful day that had started off cold, but turned out to have perfect temperature.

Besides, he’d wanted to walk around the island with Tara. This was just a way of getting what he wished for.

And like she said, how far could it be anyway?

He wanted to spend time with her. He was worried that when they got back to town, she’d run off again. For whatever reason, her aunt had her on a tight leash.

He kept their pace purposely slow, enjoying the moment.

He liked the way the wind swept her hair across her face and brought a becoming flush to her cheeks. He like the way she smiled whenever she looked at him.

He wanted to kiss her.

That was one thing he was certain of. And the sensation had only gotten stronger as they’d spent more time together.

He wanted to know more about her. Everything. “Have you seen the movie Somewhere in Time?”

She shook her head.

“Really?”

“No. It’s older, right?”

“Yeah. Christopher Reeve is in it. It’s one of my favorite movies. I had no idea that it was filmed in a place that actually existed.”

“It had to be filmed somewhere.”

“I know, but it wasn’t. It was filmed right here. Mostly in the Grand Hotel. I’ve recognized some of the places. It took me a minute, though, because in the movie he drove to the island in his car.”

“That would never happen. They have very strict rules.”

“Apparently they let it happen once. For the movie.”

“I bet that was an exciting time on the island.”

“I’m sure it was. They still celebrate it.”

She seemed to consider. “That suddenly makes sense. I wondered what they were talking about.”

“You’ve got to watch the movie.”

“Ok. I will.”

“Are you busy tonight? We can watch it?”

“Where would we get it?”

“I can stream it on my iPad.”

“Ah.”

A bubble of disappointment settled into the pit of his stomach. She hadn’t answered him about watching the movie.

Perhaps she was ready to bolt again.
